The white backgrounded California license plate is perhaps one of the most recognized plates. First put into use in 1994, it has spanned over two decades of production and is (as of 2020) the current state plate. It has been issued with and without the red text on the bottom. For some years it featured the text, "dmv.ca.gov" at the bottom and for a period it featured the text, (though not very common) "SESQUICENTENNIAL - 150 YEARS."
