A Wheeled Embossing Dies Holder
As mentioned in previous newsletter (email) updates, we've purchased a decommissioned dies set that was used for Wyoming license plates. Our plans are to use these dies to create a 50 state embossed blackout license plate collection.
Before the dies can be effectively used, we needed a way to store them all for quick access. These dies are solid steel and super heavy! I couldn't use just any shelf system. I needed something that is super heavy duty and able to be moved around the workshop. After much searching and not being able to find a suitable rack / shelf system I decided to build one!

I started out with raw tube steel and built the frame. This was made with 14 gauge steel and welded together with my MIG welder.
After priming, painting, adding stabilizing legs and caster wheels, I inserted the metal shelf system. Here's the finished result!

And here's a closeup of the dies in their slots...

I'm pretty sure this shelf system will last longer than me! It is super durable and is built as a generational piece.
Next on the to-do list, I need to make labels for each die slot and then fabricate a die and license plate holder setup for the stamping press. I haven't quite figured out the die holder setup, but I found a pretty good clue through some online searches.
For the labels, I am planning on using our fiber laser here in the shop to make permanent labels. This rack needs permanent metal labeling that can withstand years of abuse.... I'll write about that in another post.
